Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

His defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four early break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
