Former Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Legal authorities report that a former doctor now faces charges for performing sexual assaults against 38 victims who were patients.

Details of the Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at medical facilities: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Prosecutors said the 45 charges he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
