In late 2018, Steve Bannon, previously Donald Trump's chief strategist, visited the UK to deliver a speech at the prestigious Oxford Union.

The speech was interrupted by hundreds of protesters, and Bannon, who was due to board a flight that night, told Jeffrey Epstein in an email: "Protesters delayed my talk I doubt I can make the flight we are heading to the airport".

Epstein responded: "That. Is a Gulf Air that leaves at 950 with a stop in Bahrain". Bannon replied: "U r an amazing assistant".

These exchanges were released on this week alongside more than 20,000 pages from the estate of Epstein, the late financier convicted of sex crimes.

The disclosure by the Congressional committee includes an text conversation where Bannon's identity is withheld. The BBC managed to confirm his identity by cross-referencing the timeline, occurrences, and places referenced.

For example, Epstein talks about chartering a jet from the UK for the unnamed individual in the chat, and offers praise their "address at Oxford". Bannon participated in the Edinburgh conference on November 14, and gave the talk at the Oxford Union on November 16.

Bannon, who is not accused of any wrongdoing, did not reply on the request for comment.

'I'll make sure you're well looked after'

Bannon was one of Trump's closest advisers in the run up to the 2016 election and in the early days of his presidency, but stepped down from the administration in August 2017.

He has admitted he was making a documentary about Epstein before his passing and reportedly has around 15 hours of footage. In a live taping of his show recently, he said: "We're going to release the series, the five-part series, in the coming year - at the start of next year."

But the newly released materials indicate Bannon's relationship with Epstein extended than documenting his life, with the disgraced financier occasionally seeming to act like a aide.

A few days before the exchange in which Epstein appeared to have arranged a charter jet for Bannon, Epstein remarked: "how does it feel to have the most highly paid travel agent in history ".

Bannon thanked him: "You are pretty good assistant", to which Epstein responded "Massages. Not Included".

Discussing a visit to "Abu Dhabi" in a separate text, Epstein assured Bannon: "I will ensure you are taken care of."

British Affairs Mentioned in Messages

The published messages also show Bannon and Epstein talking about British political matters in 2018.

On the day of his speech at the Oxford, Bannon messaged Epstein: "I became involved in the Brexit thing this day with Nigel, Boris and Rees Mogg."

Then, in what appears to be a allusion to the UK prime minister, the embattled UK prime minister at the period, he added: "They are trying to proceed. May today / tomorrow…"

Epstein advised Bannon: "In my view remaining as much as you can in the UK. Best-- so people see the commitment of your follow through."

Soon after, Epstein asked: "Will Theresa may remain in power". Bannon replied: "I don't see how however the people here have little courage" and noted "Johnson ; Gove; Rees Mogg; Davis - somebody has to take charge".

May was eventually toppled in 2019 after withstanding multiple attempts of lack of support in late 2018.

A representative for the political party informed media: "Nigel Farage has not been in a gathering with Bannon, Rees-Mogg and Johnson." And there is no evidence that encounter took place.

The Congress will vote next week on whether the Department of Justice should release all its records concerning its probe into Epstein, who died in jail in that year.

Interest in Epstein's relationships with powerful figures was renewed this week after the release of more than 20,000 documents from his archives.

Some of those referenced Trump, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The leader was a acquaintance of Epstein's for years, but says they fell out in the early 2000s, two years before Epstein was initially charged.
